Are Iraqi Camel Spiders Venomous?
The common misconception is that Iraqi camel spiders have a powerful venom that will either cause you to fall asleep, or numb the area where it bit you. Neither of these are true. The claim may be caused by the fact that adrenaline can sometimes lessen pain, causing the bite to seem to be numbed. There is one experiment that suggests that a solifugid species in India had a paralyzing effect on 7 out of 10 lizards, but that research is in question and there have been no reports of an Iraqi camel spider bite numbing the skin. They lack the glands that produce venom in spiders.
